missing pinky finger flesh

Today has been a frustrating day. Well the last three days have been very frustrating, but today I sustained injury whilst changing buckets on my backhoe. The title says it all.
Well I feel like continuing to harp on religion so let me try to lay it out. Catholics anger me, southern baptists anger me, and both for very similar reasons. The christian faith now is full of lies and misrepresentation of what is actually written in the bible. The first congress of catholics picked and choose which things they were going to put in "the bible". How is that for truth?
One of my favorite examples of biblical misrepresentation is the argument for being anti-abortion. "while you were still in the womb, I knew you". This is taken out of context. It was God talking to one specific person, not every babe in the womb. If you go back to the laws of Moses, you will find that an unborn fetus is not considered a life. I am paraphrasing now "If you beat a pregnant woman and the fetus dies you owe the husband so many goat and sheep, if you beat a pregnant woman and the woman dies then it is a life for a life". hmmm, interesting.
There are "preachers" who some how use the bible to rationalize bigotry. I am talking about now, in this day and age, not 30 or 40 years ago. These people have no place being a leader in any form. I would like to change these people and open their eyes and ears, but most of them are so entrenched that I would be lynched and crucified for my efforts. There is one woman that I knew that actually said that any book besides the bible was heresy. She was basing her judgement on tradition of her "ancestors" and the founders of America. Once again back to the "America founded on christianity" myth. John Adams, a christian, read extensively from many types of books. Our mind is one of our greatest gifts and assets and to limit it is a sin in my view. We should always be learning and finding new horizons .

Che, thanks for your visit to my blog earlier. i'll look forward to posts in the future regarding your solar enterprize.

And i couldn't agree with you more about the religious zealots all around us. We recently saw--in our tiny town's international film festival--a great documentary called The Sword of Constantine which might be of interest to you. It's about a former Catholic Preist's journey from faith to utter skepticism, and is a good way to spend a hour and a half.
